The Workshop M&MIMS24 has reviewed the activities of the first two years of the NEXTBUILDING project as detailed in the presentation of the PI, Prof. Ada Amendola here provided for download.
This course has been organized by the International Center of Mechanical Sciences (CISM) of Udine under the support of MAECI and the NEXTBUILDING project. It has been aimed at illustrating the peculiar mechanical behavior of tensegrity systems in the large displacement regime and their application for the development of mechanical metamaterials, space structures, and mechanical models of biological system. Such topics are central to the different lines of research of the NEXTBUILDING project, and the Course has provided input for outlining future directions of the project.
The PhD students Valentina Adinolfi (UNISA) and Baidehi Das (UNICT, UNISA) presented their projects on the EMI Conference 2023. Valentina Adinolfi presented a study with title “A multiscale approach to design of seismic metaisolators”, while Baidehi Das did her presentation “On the use of fractal geometry for the design of tensegrity braces”.
UNISA PhD student Julia de Castro Motta, on 13 September 2023, gave a presentation entitled “On the existence and properties of solitary waves traveling in tensegrity-like lattices” at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). The results of the collaboration between the University of Salerno and the research group of Professor Julian Rimoli (UCI) were presented, in a numerical and analytical study on the propagation of solitary waves in metamaterials made of tensegrity structures in the form of octahedrons.
Continuing a long-standing collaboration on the field of innovative metamaterials, Professor Fernando Fraternali, from UNISA, visited the Laboratory of Professor Chiara Daraio, from the California Institute of Technology.
The Dr. Andrea di Filippo, UNISA Post-Doc, participated as a speaker in the seminar “New methodologies for the AEC industry”, organized by Prof. Amelia Celoza, belonging to the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering of the University of Colorado Boulder. The event took place on May 9th in the conference room of the Department and Dr. di Filippo presented a speech entitled “Existing BIM to digitize and manage the built heritage”, which proposes a solution to maximize efficiency in the management of information content along the life cycle of the building by making use of the tools offered by BIM-type parametric modeling.
NAFSA (Association of International Educators) is the largest association in the world dedicated to education and international exchange.
Thousands of professionals from all over the world participated in the event and had the opportunity to illustrate their latest innovations, proven strategies and best practices in education and research. The NAFSA event was also a plataform for several sessions with international education leaders and changemakers from around the world, addressing topics such as professional development, research and career advancement, multigenerational perspective , as well as the importance of inclusive internationalization on local and global communities.
The Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Salerno (UNISA) participated in the event illustrating the educational offer of the Degree Courses and Doctoral Courses in “Environmental, Mobility and Infrastructure Engineering the Territory” and “Structural Engineering, Architecture and Historical, Architectural and Landscape Heritage”.
The UNISA delegation was formed by prof. Claudio Guarnaccia, by PhD students Valentina Adinolfi and Aurora Mascolo.
